History of Mashhad

Mashhad is situated in the ancient territory of Greater Khorasan. The word "khor" in Persian means "sun" and "san" means "place". Hence, Khorasan is the place where the sun rises, indicating the province's status in the ancient history of the region. Undoubtedly, this region has witnessed many significant historical events and gave birth to many famous people.
